Another way to adjust multiple vertices at once is to use Blender's Proportional Editing feature. It allows related or nearby vertices to be adjusted at the same time. An example application of Proportional Editing may be the top of my wrist. As is, the vertices are all pretty flat and I would like to give the wrist a consistent rounding:
