Sometimes objects appear connected, but in reality, they are not. Take the case of duplicate vertices in the coordinate bracelet. The decimal point for my coordinate looks like an intact cube. When I select a corner point and move it, a gaping hole is revealed. The adjacent faces are not actually connected, leaving each edge affiliated with a single, independent face. In the correct geometry, when that single vertex is moved, the related faces adjust and no hole is revealed.
