My personal preference is to convert to mesh first and then use the Blender Extrude tool instead. This is an identical process to what we did in Chapter 3, Converting a Bezier Curve to a Properly Sized 3D Mesh, with the profile pendant. The steps are as follows:
- If necessary, switch to Object Mode and right-click the text object to select it.
- Go to the Object | Convert to | Mesh from Curve/Meta/Serf/Text menu at the bottom of the screen.
- Switch to Edit Mode and hit the A key to select all the vertices.
- In the Tool Shelf on the left side of the screen, click the Tools tab. Under the Mesh Tools section, click the Extrude button. Type in the desired height of the text. In my case, I type 0.5 to give it a height of 0.5mm: ...
