Using Inset and Extrude for fingernails

For the fingernail, I want a slight curve inward going down before the fingernail itself emerges. I'm going to do this with a combination of Inset and Extrude.

The steps are as follows:

  1. In Edit Mode, make sure there are edges roughly where the fingernail begins and ends. If necessary, you can do an Edge Slide to move an existing edge or a Loop Cut and Slide to add another:
Position the edge loops for fingernails.
  1. Make any initial adjustments for the shape. In my case, I pull the middle vertices away from each other to prepare for a more rounded look:
