Definitions

Strictly speaking, decision making is the process of choosing among alternatives. Problem solving is a multistage process for moving from an undesirable or unsatisfactory condition, situation, or state to a more desirable or satisfactory state. Put another way, the purpose in problem solving is to close the gap between what is happening now (current situation) and what we want to have happen (desired situation). Decision making is also imbedded in the problem-solving process, and I see the two as intertwined.
