Naming convention

Each network could have hundreds of network devices. Each device needs to be manged and will send traps to the NMS systems. It is important to adopt a systematic naming convention for the hostname of each device on the network. There are multiple benefits of having an intuitive naming convention:

  • A network operator will log in to multiple devices during troubleshooting. An intuitive hostname will make it easier to identify each device from the CLI prompt on the console.
