It can be seen from the previous discussion on application design that there are different types of servers in the DC that have different connectivity requirements. All servers with similar types of connectivity and security requirements are grouped together in a "zone" within the DC. Hence, we would have three different zones in the DC from the previous discussion, as follows:
- Demilitarized zone (DMZ), that hosts all the web servers, and other internet facing servers
- Secure app zone, where we host all the app servers
- Secure DB zone, where all database servers are hosted
