Preventing spoofed attacks

Spoofing is a term used when an attacker uses wrong source addresses in the packets that are sent to the target destination. This is generally done so as to prevent any returning traffic and to hide the identity of the attacker. There are multiple ways to detect spoofing and block the traffic from spoofed addresses. The features used to prevent spoofed packet attacks are described in the subsequent sections.
