The protocols we have studied so far are the protocols that are used for exchanging the routing information within the organization or a domain within a single administrative control. These protocols exchange a whole lot of information between the devices. When it comes to exchanging routing between two different organizations, or two networks under different administrative domains, we use a different set of protocols that are called Exterior Gateway Protocols. Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) is one such protocol that is used when ISPs connect to each other or the organization connects to the internet.
