Configuring the APs in FlexConnect mode

It is a common practice to allow the Guest VLAN come to the central site but use the Employee VLAN in a FlexConnect mode. We will describe the process to allow the Employee WLAN traffic to be switched on VLAN 50 on the AP interface connecting to the upstream switch. The control traffic and the Guest WLAN traffic will continue to reach the WLC.

The WLANs that need to be enabled for FlexConnect switching should have the Flexconnect Local Switching box checked during the creation of the WLAN in the Advanced tab. This box is highlighted in the following screenshot. In our case, this has to be done for the WLAN named Employee:
