Channels

A band is a range of frequencies that are used for a specific purpose. The use of frequency bands varies from country to country and is licensed by the regulation within the area or country. Within a band, specific frequencies are used to radiate the modulated signal. Modulation changes the frequency characteristics of the carrier, and even though the RF carrier wave is of a specific frequency, it is seldom a single frequency and the power is spread across a small range of frequencies above and below the carrier frequency. This leads to the concept of channel bandwidth, where each carrier can spread above and below the center frequency and radiate. In the 2.4 GHz band, this range is 20 MHz.
