DirectAccess is a new and improved technology introduced with Windows Server 2008 R2 and enhanced with Windows Server 2012 and is a completely new idea for remote access. Essentially, DirectAccess is a transparent always-on remote access. It allows users to always appear to be on the corporate network and appear as if they are in the office. In addition, it allows administrators to manage systems as local systems through tools like Group Policy and Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM).
