It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

Most readers have probably run into SharePoint in one incarnation or another, and may work with it on a daily basis. Even so, a brief review of the history of the product is helpful to understand the maturation process of the product line and differences between the SharePoint Foundation 2010 and the full SharePoint Server 2010 products.
