Richard Haas (b. 1936) is considered one of
the most prominent American muralists of the
twentieth century, acclaimed for his architec-
tural murals and use of the trompe l’oeil style.
Haas was born in Spring Green, Wisconsin,
and attended the University of Wisconsin–Mil-
waukee from 1954 to 1959, earning a bachelor
of arts degree in art education. In the years fol-
lowing his studies, he worked as a stonemason
apprentice at Taliesin, the home of Frank Lloyd
Wright (1867–1959; see page 54).
