Originally built in 1892, the Corn Palace (also
known as the Corn Belt Exposition) showcased
the rich agricultural opportunities available in
South Dakota and encouraged people to settle
in the state.
The building is also a graphic and ar-
chitectural celebration of corn, farming, and
agriculture in South Dakota. Rebuilt in 1921, this
Moorish Revival building is decorated through-
out with crop art, its murals and decorative
details made of corn and other harvested grains
