Finding the File You're Seeking

Until now, it's been assumed that you know the name and location of the file you want to open. But that's not always the case. How often have you scratched your head and wondered, "Where did I put that file? What did I call it?" For those times, Word provides extraordinarily powerful file search features. To access them, display the Open dialog box, and choose Find from the Tools menu (see Figure 1.40).

The basic idea behind this dialog box is to create a set of criteria that enables Word to produce a list that includes the file (or files) you're looking for—but as few extraneous files as possible. In the rest of this section, you learn how to do so.
