A Web server is a combination software/hardware computing platform required to service common Internet service requests such as the following:
Serving up Web pages
Providing access to FTP sites
Providing connections to databases
Acting as an email server (optional)
Acting as a newsgroup server (optional)
Performing e-commerce functions (optional)
