Synopsis

By default, the command available directly below the Undo command on the Edit menu is Repeat, which repeats the last typing or formatting action performed in Word. The F4 key performs the same action, which is handy for adding text or applying a format in multiple places throughout a document. The command’s name changes slightly to show the actual action performed (“Repeat Bold,” for instance).

When the last action taken in Word was to undo something, the Repeat command is replaced by a Redo command, which reverses the last undo action performed. Redo multiple actions by repeatedly selecting the command or by using the Redo list on the Standard toolbar, which works the same way as the Undo list discussed previously.
