Reverting the ROS master to the local computer

The solution to this is pretty simple; just follow these steps:

1. Open your local .bashrc file and comment the line at the end that specifies what URL to point to in order to find the ROS master:

$ nano ~./bashrc   ...   export ROS_HOSTNAME=rosbot.local  # THIS LINE IS NOW A COMMENT # export ROS_MASTER_URI=http://gopigo3.local:11311

Be aware that, in place of rosbot.local, you should have your current hostname, <your-hostname>.local. Simply run $ hostname in a Terminal to recall it if you are in doubt and it hasn't been set correctly in your configuration file.

2. Close all the Terminals, open a new one, and check the ROS_MASTER_URI variable:

$ echo $ROS_MASTER_URI    http://localhost:11311
