Map services

Map services are the most common form of service typically published from ArcGIS Server. Map services make geographic data available to client applications over the internet in the form of maps, features, and attributes. Map services are often used to serve dynamic layers, cached maps, and features. You can also configure map services to have the ability to be queried through the ArcGIS Server REST interface, opening them up to use by many non-Esri applications.
