Designated hosting server

For even further integration, a federated ArcGIS server can be designated as a hosting server. A hosting server is the most tightly-coupled level of integration and allows the following:

  • Items such as feature services, cached maps, and scene services can be published to Portal from other clients or from within Portal
  • CSVs and shapefiles can be added from local machines to maps (by drag and drop, no less) in the Portal map viewer
  • Addresses can be batch geocoded from a CSV file

When users publish items to Portal (such as CSVs or shapefiles), there must be a place for that data to be stored; therefore, a hosting server must be configured with an ArcGIS Data Store relational data store or a registered enterprise geodatabase ...
