During installation and upgrading, Portal's log level is set to Verbose for detailed message collection. If an error is encountered during installation or upgrade, follow these steps to examine the logs for information on the error:
- First, determine whether the Portal Admin directory can be accessed (https://<webadaptor>/portal/portaladmin). If it can be accessed, then query the logs there (refer to the next section, Working with Portal logs).
- If the Portal Admin cannot be accessed, browse to the logs on disk at <Portal for ArcGIS installation directory>/arcgisportal/logs/<machine name>/portal/, find the most recent log file, and open it in a text editor to review it for errors.
