There are two lifespans available for the ArcGIS token, short-lived and long-lived. The default lifespan for a short-lived token is 60 minutes, and for a long-lived token, the default lifespan is 1,440 minutes (24 hours). The following table summarizes how ArcGIS Server issues tokens:

What client requests |
What client receives |
|
A token with no time-out value |
A short-lived token with a time-out that matches the short-lived token lifespan property |
|
A token with a time-out value less than the short-lived token lifespan setting |
