- Have a script for the interview, with the questions that you want to ask. You can use this to guide your notes. However, do not be too tied to the script. If it makes sense during the interview, be open to deviation.
- Arrange questions in a logical conversational order that also prioritizes them. If you run out of time in an interview, you want to be sure that you’ve addressed the most important items in your script.
- Spend a few minutes at the beginning of the interview explaining the process to the person you are interviewing, and making them feel comfortable with you and the process. Ask a few ice-breaking questions, such as general questions about their work and interests.
