The seven principles of universal design created by Ronald Mace and his collaborators can also help designers to evaluate their designs from an accessibility point of view:
- Equitable use: The design is useful and attractive to people with different abilities and situations. Examples are using alt text to help screen readers and users on slow or unstable connections (where images may not download); using high contrast, which helps people with weak vision and people using technology in sunlight; and not providing mouse-only interactions such as hover.
