Creating task flows
User journeys and task flows seem very similar and a lot of people confuse the one with the other, or settle on only one of the two when doing a UX strategy. User journeys focus on the unique journey specific personas will follow to reach their end goal. This user journey is based on the different context of that specific persona, whereas task flows cover all possible routes a user can follow to reach a goal, irrespective of the person, context or entry point. If we look at the previous case study of Jason, who wants to buy a specific book, a task flow will focus on any possible way Jason could have found the book he's looking for.
