It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

認証（Authentication）とはシステムにアクセスしたユーザーが正当
な利用者であることを確認するプロセスです。
一般的にはユーザーIDとパスワードの合致確認によってユーザーを
認証します。以前は個々のシステムのデータベースにユーザーIDとパ
スワードを管理してシステム内で認証を行う方法（ローカル認証）が主
流でした。最近ではIdP（Identity Provider。ユーザーの認証情報を管
理するサービス）を利用して外部で認証を行うケースが増えています。
IdPを使った認証方式には以下のメリットがあります。

ユーザーの認証情報を一元管理することができ、運用管理者にとっ
てメンテナンス性が高まる
●
個々のシステムでユーザーのパスワード情報を管理するよりもセ
キュリティが堅牢となる
●
多要素認証によるセキュリティ強化が容易に実現できる
●
シングルサインオン（SSO）によりユーザーの利便性が高まる
アプリケーション基盤に作成する認証関連の共通機能の候補を図
4.4.2にまとめます。利用するWebアプリケーションフレームワーク
によって実装が必要な機能やその内容は変わります。
認証に限らず、セキュリティ関連の機能は、独自のやり方で作り込む
よりも標準的な方法やベストプラクティスに従った方がはるかに安全で
す。また、様々な認証手段に対応可能なフレームワークやライブラリも
ありますので、事前に調査や検証を行うとよいでしょう。たとえば
