Just as there are circuits that generate sounds, there are also circuits that modify or “process” those sounds. Two of the most basic processors in common use are the amplifier and the filter. The amplifier is extremely valuable in electronic music because it controls the dynamic aspect-crescendo and diminuendo of a sound. The filter is a somewhat more complex circuit. It is an amplifier that controllably restricts the frequency response in one of three ways.
