るのだろうか。新薬が FDA（アメリカ食品医薬品局）に承認されるか否かで、製薬会社の利益は数十億ド
ル増減する。しかし、新薬がそれまでの薬よりも本当に優れていると確信が持てるだろうか。どうすればそ
れを判断できるだろうか。

統計的有意性は、2 つの分布の間には間違いなく違いがあるという自信の度合いを測ったものである。こ
れは重要なことだ。しかし、統計的有意性は、その違いの大きさや重要性を測るわけではない。標本サイズ
