ロールにはさまざまなパターンが見られる。ひとつは、きめの細かいロールを定義し、それらを組み
合わせてサーバーを構築するというパターンである。たとえば、適用されるソフトウェアや構成 / 設定
を定義する TomcatServer、MonitoringAgent、BackupAgent、DevelopmentServerというロールを
組み合わせて 1台のサーバーを作る。
ロールの継承階層を作るパターンもある。ベースロールには、すべてのサーバーに共通するソフト
ウェアや構成 /設定が含まれる。モニタリングエージェント、共通ユーザーアカウント、DNSやNTP
などの共通設定などである。ほかのロールは、おそらく複数のレベルを使ってこれらの上に機能を追
加していく。図6-2は、継承されるロールの間の関係を図示したものである。
