It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

サーバーテンプレートのアップデート
サーバーテンプレートは、パッケージが最新のものでなくなり、構成 /設定の改良方法が見つかるな
どして、時間とともに陳腐化してしまう。新サーバーを作成するたびにパッチ、アップデートを適用す
ることはできるが、時間がたつにつれてそのための時間がどんどん長くなっていってしまう。定期的に
テンプレートを更新すれば、すべてがスムースに流れるようになる。

テンプレートの 「温め直し」
テンプレートをリフレッシュするために、前のバージョンのテンプレートを原始イメージとして使
い、アップデートや改良を適用して、新しいテンプレートバージョンとして保存するという方法があ
る。これは、通常のサーバー構成定義のサブセットを実行するだけで済む場合が多い。
この方法には、テンプレートがクラフトを蓄積していくという欠点がある。構成定義からソフトウェ
アパッケージなどがまるまる削除されても、サーバーテンプレートからは自動的に削除されない。そし
て、これらを削除したとしても、使い残しのファイル、不要になった依存パッケージ、さらには使われ
なくなったユーザーアカウントといったものが残る。これらを明示的に削除していかなければならない
のなら、テンプレートの新バージョンにこれらが決して残らないようにするのは難しい。
