Understanding your organization's goals

Be aware of your organization's strategic goals and direction. As much as possible, align your goals with the goals of the organization. There will be less friction with others, and those who are in conflict with such goals will be in conflict with the organization.

Having an understanding of how your organization makes money, and how that money is typically invested, can be useful. If you are seeking resources for your project, such as additional team members, equipment, and licenses for tools, it requires an investment by the organization. The organization is going to want a return on that investment, so be prepared to explain how it aligns with the organization's goals and objectives.
