Accessibility

Accessibility is the aspect of usability which provides features that make it easier for people with disabilities or impairments to effectively use the software. This could potentially mean thinking about vision (partial or total blindness, color blindness), hearing (deaf or hard of hearing), and physical (not being able to type or use a mouse) impairments.

Designing for accessibility may include things such as:

  • Making the software usable when only using a keyboard (no mouse)
  • Providing support for assistive technologies, such as screen magnifiers, screen readers, text-to-speech software, alternative keyboards, and pointing devices
