Rollback

The rollback technique returns the system to a checkpoint in which the system is known to have been in a good state. This does require that checkpoints be persisted in some manner. Once the system is rolled back, regular operations can continue once again. This approach can be used with active or passive redundancy so that a failed component can be made active again after a rollback.
