Availability
Software applications need to maintain availability. When implementing security, availability is among the desired qualities. If the security mechanisms employed are overly extensive given the requirements, then the usability and availability of the system will be lessened.
Software applications must allow authorized individuals access to information in a timely and reliable way. Securing data serves no purpose if authorized users cannot get to it. The information that a software application manages only has value when the right people can access it when they need it.
