Exercise 12.4. Working with Bird Animation States

The use of animation states is best learned through practice. In this exercise, you’ll link bird objects to the delegates in the hillside scene. When the birds are on the ground, they’ll stand still or peck a little at the ground. When they fly away, they’ll spread and beat their wings. You’ll use animation states to make them behave correctly.

1.
Load the scene Hill02.max that you created earlier, or from the CD.
2.
Unhide the object Bird.
3.
Zoom in on the Bird object.
4.
Play the animation to see the bird’s three types of motion:
  • In frames 0–130, the bird beats its wings.

  • In frames 130–215, the bird pecks at the ground.

  • In frames 215–255, the bird stands still.
