The employee viewpoint
The employee perspective is sometimes (but definitely not always) that of fear. The employee focuses on what they could lose if they didn't have the job they are currently in. They worry about their worth and whether another employer would employ them, let alone pay as much as they currently earn.
The employee sometimes suffers from the comfort-zone factor as well (a very common human condition), where they are "happy enough" with the salary they get for what they are doing… nothing wrong with that, except the employee with that mindset, will never get a salary increase, certainly not one worthy of what they could get if they were willing to improve their mindset (and value).
