There’s more ways than one to get Google News on iGoogle . . .
in fact, there are at least six.
Google News (http://news.google.com) is Google’s mainstream news (and partially, blog)
aggregator. According to a test I conducted in 2006, over 10,000 selected news sources are
indexed in the US version alone. News stories from sites that are part of Google News are often
indexed within mere minutes. By splitting up various stories into content clusters, Google helps
you track developments of breaking news.
There are different ways to put Google News onto your iGoogle home page. Following are
explanations for each of them. To add one of these gadgets, go to http://igoogle.com and
select Add stuffAdd feed or gadget; then paste in the gadget’s XML URL.
Have a blog you want to submit for inclusion in Google News? Try http://www.google.com/support/
news_pub/bin/request.py to see whether it will be accepted by Google’s editors. There’s no guaranteed
way to get inside the program, but it should be easier if you have multiple bloggers on board along
with an editor, turning your blog into more of a group effort at news, rather than a form of personal
expression.
