303 - MAKE YOUR 3D MODEL MORE SKETCH-LIKE
HaCK
# 124
The default rendering shows colors and precise lines
HaCK 124:
Sometimes computer renderings can look too clean. You can add a
more human touch using SketchUp’s Styles.
The default rendering mode of SketchUp is already quite rened, as the model by E46LE from the
Google 3D Warehouse in Figure 11-29 shows. But what if you want to make your model look more
sketchy, true to the name of the program?
If you have the latest version of SketchUp installed, this is easy. Just select Window→Styles from
the menu. A dialog opens that lets you apply different sketch rendering modes, like Sketchy Marker,
Sketchy Pencil, or Sketchy Charcoal Loose—this one is applied in Figure 11-30.
To ne-tune the rendering, you can now also switch to the Edit tab of the Styles dialog. You can
increase the length of extensions drawn to your line, for instance. Experimenting with this feature
can be fun and often shows impressive results.
Making a selection from the Styles dialog results in sketchy edges.
(This feature was formerly available as a plug-in named Style Builder.)
