Put the spotlight on any discussion.
A “sticky” thread in a discussion forum is a thread that will always appear at the top of the list on the
overview page, even if more recent threads have appeared since then. If you are the group owner,
you will nd this feature useful for directing attention to certain topics that you consider especially
noteworthy, or of special interest to new members.
You can make a thread sticky in Google Groups if you have the right access permissions for the
group (if you are the original group owner—Google differentiates between a group’s regular
members, managers, and owners, which are roles that you as owner can assign to others).
For example, I’ve created a group called Comic Book Watcher Group. Using the Group Settings
Appearance tab, I’ve given the layout an overhaul, as pictured in Figure 10-19. I’ve also changed the
labels’ order and text to the right side via the Group SettingsNavigation dialog. Plus, I’ve made the
group private, so no one except invited members will be able to read the discussions, or view the
les and pages that are posted in this group.
To set a thread to be sticky, rst click on the thread. On top of it, you will nd a link reading Options.
