To import this le into Gmail, open Gmail and choose ContactsImport, as shown in
Figure 5-5. Note that after a successful import, you may need to switch from “Most Contacted”
to “All Contacts” to see the new contacts (and to further edit them in Gmail, as you see t).

If you have signed up with Windows Live Hotmail but you want to switch to Gmail, you can take your
address book with you as well. Start by logging in to Hotmail.com. Click the Contacts button to the
left side, and then choose OptionsExport contacts from the top-right menu. Click the “Export
contacts” button to start the le download. Save the CSV le somewhere, and import it into Gmail
by choosing ContactsImport from within Gmail.

Importing the address book into Gmail

If you are using Thunderbird as your mail client, you can export your contacts by opening up the
address book and selecting ToolsExport from the menu, as shown in Figure 5-6. In the save dialog,
choose Comma Separated as le type. Pick any le name, like “contacts”, and save. Open the saved
le by choosing ContactsImport in Gmail.

If you use Apple’s Mail program, all your contacts are probably in Apple’s Address Book application,
which cannot export CSV on its own. However, the free A to G utility, available at http://bborofka.
com/atog/, can do this for you.
