Alternatively, you can also upload videos via email—especially suited for lms recorded with your
mobile phone. Look for your special email address to send clips to; it’s on the bottom right of the
upload page.
Your video playback page will have a URL like http://vimeo.com/739349, and appear similar to the
one in Figure 9-30. The video page looks neat and uncluttered. On the downside, the video will not
automatically buffer or play when you visit the video page—you also won’t see any buffering or
playback time status unless you hover over the video. As with YouTube, videos can be embedded
elsewhere using an HTML snippet.
The Vimeo HTML source code contains a kind of Easter egg in the form of ASCII art. Have a look by right-
clicking any page, and selecting View Page Source (or similar) from the context menu!


Blip.tv (yep, that’s the URL; http://blip.tv) also lets you upload your video. During upload, you can
provide information on your video and also choose from among several variants of the Creative
Commons license. Your video URL will be in the format of http://blip.tv/le/705790, displaying
as shown in Figure 9-31. Note that until Blip.tv nishes converting your video, the video player
may require the installation of an additional Windows Media Player plugin, which is sometimes
troublesome in Firef ...
