Sharing a Google Docs document means giving another Google Account user the right to access
your document. However, you need not create a copy of the le in order to do so; both you and the
recipient will be editing the same le, potentially at the same time .
To share a document, open it in Google Docs and switch to the Share tab. Enter the recipient (or
group of recipients), and uncheck “Invitations may be used by anyone” if you want only this single
recipient (or group) to access the document. Click “Invite collaborators” and you are offered the
opportunity to write a custom invitation message. Afterwards, you’re done and the recipient will
get a link to your document in their email inbox.
The recipients do not need a Google account to see the document, though they do need one to edit
it. If the recipients are logged in to Google, they are presented with a full Google Docs editor; if they
are not logged in, they will just see an uneditable, simpler web page with a footnote link reading “Edit
this page (if you have permission).”
If you uncheck the “Collaborators may invite others” box, the people you invite won’t be able to grant access
to other users. This setting also forces anyone who wants to read this document to log in to their Google
account rst. Now the document is also not easy ...
