If you have more than one prole congured in Thunderbird, you’ll need to rst cd to the Proles directory,
then poke around using
cd and ls (Mac OS X or Linux) or dir (Windows) to gure out which prole contains
your Gmail messages. The one you’re looking for will have a pop.gmail.com subdirectory under the prole’s
Mail directory.
Next, use the cd command to “change directory” (switch to the folder) where Thunderbird stores
its mail.
On , type the following:
cd ~/Library/Thunderbird/Profiles/*/Mail
On , type the following (you can also use the pathname, minus the “cd” in Explorer:
cd %APPDATA%\Thunderbird\Profiles\
Then type cd, followed by a space, and press Tab. The command will expand to include your prole
directory. For example:
cd 2punitlu.default
Next, type:
cd Mail
On , type the following:
cd ~/.mozilla-thunderbird/*/Mail
Press the Return or Enter key after you type a command. Now, leave your command-line window
open, and proceed to the next step.
Now you’re ready—or nearly ready—to make a backup copy of all your Gmail messages. First,
make sure that Thunderbird is done downloading all your Gmail. This could take quite some time,
so be sure to double-check.
