There are many ways to send a Google document. Here are the
alternatives at your disposal.
You just created a new text document in Google Docs discussing the life and times of Napoleon
Bonaparte, as shown in Figure 5-29. How do you send this le to someone else to have a look at,
too? There are several ways to accomplish this, each with their own pros and cons.
You could save the le as Word in Google Docs, and attach the Word le to your email message. Go
to Google Docs, open your document from the le list, and choose File→Export as Word. . . from the
menu. Save the Word le, and head over to Gmail to compose a new message. Click “Attach a le,”
select the Word le you want to send, and click Send.
Pros: People are already used to receiving Word attachments, and they do not need a Google
Account to edit your le.
Cons: When you export your Google document into the Microsoft Word format, some formatting
details may be changed after the conversion. Also, when you send a document as an attachment,
you are sending a mere copy; any edits the recipient makes to the document are not automatically
reected in your document. Reintegrating changes into your source document stored at Google
Docs can be a hassle.
