Google Spreadsheets is smart enough to nish lists of information
for you, and can even go beyond what Excel or OpenOfce.org can do.
It’s not unusual to nd lists of related values in a a spreadsheet. For instance, you may come across
a list of weekdays. To ll out such a list, you can start by typing the rst three:
Sunday
Monday
Tuesday
You can automatically grow the list to include the other weekdays. You might have encountered this
feature (auto-ll) in Microsoft Excel. Select your list cells, and then drag the handle in the bottom-
right corner down over empty cells. Thanks to this feature, your list now reads:
Sunday
Monday
Tuesday
Wednesday
Thursday
Friday
Saturday
Sunday
Monday
Tuesday
...
This trick works with other sequential list data too, like 1, 2, 3 or A, B, C and more. When Google
Spreadsheets is not able to continue the list data, it will just repeat the existing data in a loop for the
repeated cells.

You can even grow arbitrary lists with a different feature: Magic-Fill. Open a new spreadsheet and
type the following superhero names into the cells:
Batman
Superman
Wonder Woman
Expanding this list as usual will just repeat the list. But here’s a trick: instead of just dragging the handle
