Like feeds, HTML itself
can also be parsed by
software. However,
HTML has grown
more complex over
time; for instance, it
often includes layout
denitions right
within the main le, as
opposed to an external
stylesheet. Also, HTML
doesn’t yet have a
clearly dened and
agreed-upon structure
to denote specic
articles within a page.
Efforts in the form of
drafts are underway
to change this, like
XHTML 2 and HTML 5.
XHTML 2, for instance,
proposes to include a
<section> element, and
the option to write, for
example, <h role="rss:
title">...</h>
for
headings. HTML 5, on
the other hand, has an
<article> element. But
these drafts take time
to be nalized, if ever,
and then to become
supported by browsers
or feed readers, so
they pose no present
alternative to RSS or
Atom feeds.
