Suffering from information overload? Then you’d better not try
this hack at home—here’s a way to create the ultimate calendar.
Google Calendar allows you to mix your own calendar with calendar events created by others. This
can help you to discover happenings in your neighborhood, keep track of festivals in other countries,
or follow the schedule of a celebrity or politician, to name just a few uses.
There are two basic ways to get new calendar content. One is to search, and the other to explore.
If you already have a clear picture of what type of calendar you want, give the search functionality
a try. Go to http://calendar.google.com, enter a keyword in the search box on top, and send it off by
clicking the Search Public Calendars button. For instance, if you enter the name of your home town,
you might be able to nd calendars listing nearby events; I’ve entered “stuttgart”, as shown in Figure
7-6. Another option is to enter the name of your favorite band or musician—say, “Loudon Wainwright
III”—as you might sometimes stumble upon a concert calendar. Click Add Calendar next to calendars
that catch your interest, and they will be displayed on your calendar in their own unique color.
