Set up your Google Notebook to copy snippets and jot down
thoughts while surng the Web.
You can think of Google Notebook as a lightweight sibling of Google Docs. As both a browser extension
and a feature added to your Google search results, a Google Notebook is something you “carry around”
while surng; it lets you save small pieces of text or links for future reference. You can also use it as a
collaborative tool for projects in which a whole team is doing research on a specic topic.
Let’s just imagine our topic at hand is pets and pet food, for our new web site
PetFoodInfo.example.com, and that we want to acquire more information in preparation for building
the site. We’ll start by heading over to the Google Notebook home page at http://google.com/
notebook to install Notebook. After signing in with your Google Account and agreeing to the
terms of service, the download for the Google Notebook browser extension will start. (Accept the
security dialog if one pops up, and reopen all browser windows if you’re asked to.)
At the time of this writing, the browsers currently supported are Internet Explorer 6 and later (Windows XP
only) and Firefox 1.5+ (Windows XP and Vista, Mac OS X, and Linux).
