56 GOOGLE APPS HACKS
The GoogleFinance function is essentially GoogleLookup’s older sibling, but it provides nance data
only. As with GoogleLookup, you need to provide two values, but they’re called symbol and attribute
this time:
=GoogleFinance(symbol, attribute)
For instance, to nd out the current price of Yahoo stock, you would write:
=GoogleFinance("YHOO", "price")
This function returned “23.25”, as shown in Figure 3-5.
The stock price value comes with a delay of up to 20 minutes, according to Google. Some of the
other attributes you can use are:
The opening price of the stock for the day
The highest price the stock traded for the day
The lowest price the stock traded for the day
The number of shares traded of this stock for the day
The current market cap of the stock
The last time this stock traded
The 52-week high for the stock
The 52-week low for the stock
The quantity of shares outstanding for the stock
The currency in which the stock is traded
For a full list of available attributes, you can search the Google Docs help le for “GoogleFinance.”
